Be inspired by the stories of our persecuted brothers and sisters! At the VOM ADVANCE conference, speakers from around the world share personal testimonies about God’s faithfulness in the midst of persecution. Join us to learn how God’s kingdom is advancing, even in the face of fierce opposition. Meet your persecuted family face to face, and let God use their stories to challenge you to a deeper, bolder walk with Him.

The conference rekindled my desire to pray for others, to stand in the gap and, again, intercede for those who are persecuted for His name.

Conference attendee

You make the persecuted real to us by sharing their pictures and their stories, and I feel like we know them through our prayers.

About The Voice of the Martyrs

The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is a nonprofit, interdenominational missions organization that offers practical and spiritual help to persecuted Christians around the world. Founded in 1967, VOM is dedicated to inspiring all believers to deepen their commitment to Christ and to fulfill His Great Commission no matter the cost. The Voice of the Martyrs continues in this mission around the world today through the following main purposes:

Our ministry is based on Hebrews 13:3: Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.
  • To encourage and empower Christians to fulfill the Great Commission in areas of the world where they are persecuted for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • To provide practical relief and spiritual support to the families of Christian martyrs.
  • To equip persecuted Christians to love and win to Christ those who are opposed to the gospel in their part of the world.
  • To undertake projects of encouragement, helping believers rebuild their lives and Christian witness in countries where they have formerly suffered oppression.
  • To promote the fellowship of all believers by informing the world of the faith and courage of persecuted Christians, thereby inspiring believers to a deeper level of commitment to Christ and involvement in His Great Commission.

  • Gracia Burnham
    Philippines
While serving as missionaries in the Philippines, Gracia and her husband, Martin, were kidnapped by a militant Muslim group and held captive for 376 days. more about Gracia Burnham

For 17 years, Gracia and her husband, Martin, served with New Tribes Mission in the Philippines, where Martin was a jungle pilot. Gracia served in various roles supporting the aviation program and also home-schooled their three children. While celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary at a resort, the Burnhams and other guests were kidnapped on May 27, 2001, by the ASG, a militant group of Muslims. In the ensuing months some of the hostages were killed, but most were set free. From November 2001, only the Burnhams and one other hostage remained in captivity. During their captivity, they faced near starvation, constant exhaustion, frequent gun battles and intense soul-searching. On June 7, 2002, Martin was killed during an attack on the ASG camp by the Philippine military. Gracia was wounded in the attack but was freed by government forces. Gracia has written two books about her experiences, In The Presence of My Enemies and To Fly Again.

  • Dan Baumann
    Iran
In 1997, Dan Baumann visited Iran to share about the love of Jesus. He and a friend were arrested on false charges, and Dan received two death sentences. more about Dan Baumann

Dan Baumann was born in Los Angeles, California, where he attended El Camino Junior College before transferring to Wheaton College to complete a degree in business. He then joined Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and moved to Afghanistan to work as a volunteer at an eye hospital. He served as a hospital administrator full time for five years and part time for four years. In 1997, Dan visited Iran to share about the love of Jesus. He and a friend were arrested on false charges, and Dan received two death sentences. By God’s grace he was released after nine weeks in prison. The story of God’s miraculous work during this time is included in his book Imprisoned in Iran. In 1998, he moved to southern Colorado to join a YWAM training center and begin training and discipling young people. While in Colorado, he and a friend wrote a second book, A Beautiful Way, which openly and simply discusses how Jesus meets us in our walk with him. In 2007, Dan moved to Kona, Hawaii, to continue his work at another YWAM training center. He currently spends more than half of each year traveling to teach for YWAM and at churches and universities, challenging and encouraging people to run after and fall in love with Jesus. He spends the rest of each year at home in Kona, Hawaii, working with the YWAM Discipleship Training school. Dan’s passion is to see a generation of people discover who Jesus is and to help and encourage them to walk with Him in every area of their life. In January 2015, he published his third book, A Fresh Look at Fear.

  • Brother Rachid
    Middle East
Brother Rachid is a Moroccan Christian convert from Islam. As one of the most outspoken Christian converts in the world, he currently hosts a program called Let's Be Clear. more about Brother Rachid

Born the son of a Muslim imam in Morocco, Brother Rachid memorized one-sixth of the entire Quran by age 6. He attended Hassan II University in Casablanca, where he studied economics. Rachid holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion and is currently working on his master’s degree in political science. After listening to Trans World Radio, a careful self-study of the differences between Islam and Christianity led him to take correspondence courses for four years, and he gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1990.

While in his homeland, Rachid began a project to translate the Quran into local dialects. He found that more than 80 million in the Arab world do not truly understand what the Quran teaches because they hear it in an old, classical dialect of Arabic, which they do not speak. Rachid firmly believes that as more Muslims understand what the Quran says, their eyes will be opened and more of them will leave Islam. For the past six years, he has been leading a project to translate the Bible into the Moroccan dialect.

Since 2006, Rachid has hosted television shows that compare Christianity with Islam, including 55 taped episodes of Unveiling the Mask and 555 live episodes of Daring Questions. He now hosts a program called Let’s Be Clear. Rachid’s deep knowledge of both faiths enables him to boldly challenge false beliefs with wisdom, love and respect. The program features dynamic testimonies of Muslim-background believers and gives followers of Islam the opportunity to ask questions about the Christian message through lively on-air phone calls. The program also exposes the plight of oppressed Christians in Muslim countries; refutes misconceptions about Christianity, which are often perpetuated by major media outlets in the Middle East; and fearlessly tackles other controversial topics. Christian converts share their testimonies on the 60-minute show each week, and thousands of viewers have called the program’s live prayer line or visited its several websites — many to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
